In the old Platonic Academy, there was something called the Quadrivium. To advance at all one had to learn Arithmetic, Geometry, Music and Astronomy.

Now why should mathematics be the beginning of all learning?

If this universe is rational – and if it can be understood, it is rational – then we need a rational language to describe and understand it. The language that ultimately qualifies as a fully rational language to describe and communicate about a rational universe, is mathematics.

In Scientology a lot of emphasis was placed on word clearing, meaning carefully defining and understanding the symbols used in language. Language, such as the English language is all but unambiguous and rational. Therefore it would be wise to learn a rational language. Thus there is a key priority in study: Learn the language of mathematics!
